News O’Clock!

October 11th, 2007 by Andy

It’s been a bit since I’ve posted, but I’ve been toeing the line of insanely busy for the last couple of years and I finally decided to just hop on over. I have a good deal of news as a result.

First off, I was accepted into the Pixar 2 program at the academy of art which I’m quite pleased about. Second, I was offered (and accepted) an animator position at an awesome little subsidiary of Activision called Toys for Bob. I didn’t meet anyone there named Bob come to think of it, but I’m excited nonetheless. Lastly, there’s a video worth watching over here. Keep an eye on the names, you might see someone you know :).

Something you don’t see everyday…

July 26th, 2007 by Andy

I found this quite interesting as I’ve seen this type of thing done in still frame, but never animated. I’m impressed at the draftsmanship and persistence of some of the animations as well. Unless I’m missing something, animating in this way would be like drawing blindly in a three dimensional space with no reference to your previous drawings. Enjoy!

Blind Drawings

July 12th, 2007 by Andy

A buddy of mine linked this to me and I thought it might be worth sharing. It appears that a number of comic and serial artists in the 40s and 50s were asked to draw their lead character and then draw it again while blindfolded. I found the results rather fascinating.

Fear takes

July 1st, 2007 by Andy

Here’s a link someone sent me for a laugh, but while I was watching it I felt the takes might be useful as surprise/fear reference: sign switch

In other news, the AM BBQ was this weekend out near the golden gate. It was a rip and a rare opportunity to catch up with a few out-of-state (or country) AMers that I wasn’t sur e I’d ever have the pleasure of meeting. The weather couldn’t have been better either, which is why I now look like a tomato.

Animation Mentor Class 3: Complete

June 22nd, 2007 by Andy

AM Class 3 ends today, another highly enjoyable term. I have to admit, my work tailed off a bit at the end due to a bit of burn out. As a result my last shot is not nearly where I’d like it to be, but I find these things happen. My mentor for class 3 (into to acting) was Dimos Vrysellas, who was very energetic and supportive. I found his excitement about the craft quite infectious and although I had a number of scheduling conflicts with my Q&A this term, the ones I was able to attend were fantastic. Keep your eye out for my class three reel, as it should be up as soon as I can figure out how to post it.

Attack of the Beige!

June 22nd, 2007 by Andy

I spent the last day messing with css stylesheets and a few site wrapper images and this is what I’ve come up with. So far it’s been described as “very brown” and “the most boring thing I’ve ever seen.” With luck I can spruce it up with a bit of work, but to be honest, playing with the site layout and colors is quite fun so maybe I’ll pick at it again in the future. Feel free to leave any comments or suggestions you feel are warranted, my sense of color is admittedly a bit off.

About andrewsalvo.com

Hello, my name is Andrew Salvo. I'm currently employed as an auditor at a small consulting firm in the San Francisco Bay Area. Amidst all the Sarbanes Oxley shenanigans, I am also toiling away at an animation portfolio designed to take my career in a new direction. This website will be devoted to that aim and will be updated sporadically with my own work (and anything else I deem fit to share). Thanks for stopping by, enjoy your stay. -Andy
